Kaylin Flatland /December 17, 2022

Multi-talented point guard Trey Burke joins the Stockton Kings for the 2022-23 season with the hopes of earning a spot on an NBA roster.

Burke played his college ball for the Michigan Wolverines and was recognized as one of the best point guards in the nation by CBS Sports following his freshman season. In his sophomore season, he led the Big Ten in assists and set the Michigan single season assists record at 260.

During his time at Michigan he earned National Player of the Year and led the 2012-13 Wolverines to the championship game of the 2013 NCAA March Madness Tournament

Burke earned several Player of the Year awards while with the Wolverines, including the Wooden, Associated Press, National Association of Basketball, Naismith, Robertson and Sports Illustrated. He also earned the top men's collegiate point guard Bob Cousy Award in 2013.

Burke made his NBA debut after being drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. He was then traded to the Utah Jazz, where he would spend three seasons.

Burke debuted for the Jazz on Nov. 20 after an injury to his index finger that delayed his start. On Nov. 30, he would have his first 20-point scoring performance, leading the Jazz to their first road victory of the season against the Suns. Burke would then go on to help the Jazz record their first back-to-back wins of the season on Dec. 2 against the Houston Rockets with career- highs of 21 points and 6 assists.

Burke finished his rookie season third in the NBA Rookie of the Year Award voting.

Burke would go on to play for the Washington Wizards in 2017, and then move onto the Westchester Knicks, (New York Knicks G League affiliate).

In just his second game with Westchester, Burke tallied 43 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in 40 minutes to set the team’s single-game scoring record.

Burke then signed with the New York Knicks for the 2018-19 season after averaging 26.6 points the previous season, good for second highest output in the G League that year.

Burke would eventually go on to play for the Dallas Mavericks in 2019, and the 76ers later that year. He returned to Dallas from 2020-2022.

Since joining Stockton on Dec. 9, Burke has already started making moves with the Kings, scoring 18 points and nine assists in their Dec. 11 win against Ignite.
