Stockton Kings Acquire Returning Player Rights to Tristen Newton in Three-Team Trade

Today, the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, announced they have acquired the returning player rights to 2025-26 All-NBA G League First Team guard Tristen Newton and forward Teddy Allen in a three-team trade with the Delaware Blue Coats and Iowa Wolves. In exchange, Delaware receives the returning player rights to guard Jameer Nelson Jr., while Iowa receives the returning player rights to forward Jaylin Williams and Stockton’s second-round pick in the 2027 NBA G League Draft. Iowa is also receiving a 2027 first-round pick from the Blue Coats.

Newton (6-5) appeared in 49 games with the Iowa Wolves and Rio Grande Valley Vipers during the 2025-26 NBA G League Tip-Off Tournament and regular season, averaging 25.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He finished the regular season ranked third in the NBA G League in scoring (25.6 points per game), was named to the All-NBA G League First Team, and participated in the 2026 NBA Castrol Rising Stars game.

Newton began the 2025-26 season with Iowa after signing a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves in September 2025. In 19 games with Iowa, he averaged 26.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He signed a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets in January 2026 and spent the remainder of the NBA G League season with Rio Grande Valley.

Originally selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 49th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Newton began his professional career on a two-way contract with Indiana before later joining Minnesota. He has appeared in nine career NBA games with the Pacers, Timberwolves and Rockets.

The El Paso, Texas native played five collegiate seasons at East Carolina University (2019-22) and the University of Connecticut (2022-24). Newton helped UConn capture consecutive NCAA national championships in 2023 and 2024 and was named the 2024 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player. As a senior, he received the Bob Cousy Award and earned Consensus First Team All-America honors.
