Today, the Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, Kaiser Permanente and Second Harvest of the Greater Valley announced the second year of the “Kings 209 Pantry,” an initiative to supply fresh produce, perishable and non-perishable items to underserved neighborhoods. As part of a multi-year partnership between the Stockton Kings and Kaiser Permanente, the Kings 209 Pantry aims to make a positive impact in the community through proactive programs and healthy food donations.
“Helping to address food insecurity within the San Joaquin region and giving back to our community is a top priority for the Stockton Kings,” said Stockton Kings Vice President of Business Operations Aaron Morales. “We are proud to continue our partnership with Kaiser Permanente and Second Harvest of the Greater Valley to provide underserved areas of our region access to nourishing food through the 209 Pantry.”
“Improving the health of the communities we serve has been an integral part of Kaiser Permanente’s mission for almost 80 years, and the 209 Pantry helps to do just that by providing vital nutrition to those who otherwise might go without,” said Kaiser Permanente San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties Public Affairs Director Deborah Pitts. “Thank you to the Stockton Kings and Second Harvest for their leadership of this important work.”
“The Stockton Kings have shown time and again that their commitment lies with the communities in and around Stockton,” said Second Harvest of the Greater Valley Director of Development Jessica Vaughan. “Their continued efforts with the Kings 209 Pantry in partnership with Kaiser Permanente is proof of that. We are proud of the work they continue to do and look forward to more opportunities to collaborate.”
During the 2022-23 season, the Stockton Kings, Kaiser Permanente and Second Harvest of the Greater Valley launched the Kings 209 Pantry to alleviate food scarcity and encourage healthy habits. The three organizations remain committed to improving the health and wellness in Stockton and the surrounding region and will continue distributions at local community sites through the 2023-24 NBA G League season.
The Kings 209 Pantry drive-thru distribution event will take place at Centro Vida on Wednesday, May 10, and is expected to serve 400-600 families.
