Stockton Kings Defeat Capitanes in 123-93 Victory

Kings Win Series with Back-to-Back Victories

The Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings (17-9), swept the Mexico City Capitanes (12-13), 123-93, Friday night at Adventist Health Arena (formerly Stockton Arena). The regular season series stands at 2-0. 

The Stockton Kings trailed early in the first frame. Capitanes center Kenneth Faried started the contest by scoring the first bucket of the match and forward Ethan Thompson sank in back-to-back threes to spark Mexico City’s 10-4 run with 8:46 left. The Kings were able to stay afloat with the help of guard Jaylen Nowell’s late five points cutting the deficit to 24-29 by the end of the frame. The Kings continued the fight in the second quarter, shooting 55% from field versus the Capitanes 40%. Forward Jalen Slawson started things off with a rebound, followed by a dunk, and a crucial stop to put the Kings up 26-29. Later in the frame, center Skal Labissiere, guard Mason Jones, guard Jordan Ford, and forward Kessler Edwards rained down shots to establish a 17-2 run with 4:42 to put Stockton up 58-47 at the half. The Kings extended their lead in the second half. The Capitanes couldn’t close the gap and never saw a lead after the first half. Mexico City gave up 24 points in turnovers (33 overall). The Kings saw their biggest lead by 33 points in the final frame, taking the win over Mexico City, 123-93. 

Ford registered 23 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. M. Jones added 20 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and one steal. Labissiere punched in 12 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Kessler Edwards came off the bench to lead the Kings with 24 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Nowell and guard-forward Deonte Burton combined for 26 points off the bench.

Capitanes guard Louis King led the game with 27 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Forward Ethan Thompson contributed 16 points, two rebounds, and one assist. Forward Phillip Wheeler totaled 13 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Guard Alexey Borges finished with 11 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Guard Iverson Molinar scored 11 points off the bench and added four assists and one steal.

The Stockton Kings will take on the Iowa Wolves at Adventist Health Arena on Sunday, March 10 at 2 PM PST.
