Stockton Kings Defeat Mexico City Capitanes, 117-115

The Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, defeated the Mexico City Capitanes 117-115 on Wednesday night at Stockton Arena.

Stockton began with a 7-0 run during the opening two minutes. Capitanes guard Mason Jones cut the Kings run with a big shot at the top of the key with four minutes left in the first quarter. Stockton maintained the lead, entering the second quarter up by six, 32-26. Mexico City’s defense starred in the second period, holding Stockton to just 10 shots. The Kings led the Capitanes, 66-61, at the half.

The Kings and Capitanes went back-and-forth to start the third quarter, but six fouls on the Capitanes gave the Kings the opportunity to keep the lead. Stockton began the fourth quarter up 93-83 and led by as many as 10 points before closing out the victory.

Stockton was led by guard Jordan Ford with 32 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in 37 minutes. His 30-point performance marked a season-high. Kings two-way guard Keon Ellis tallied 17 points and six rebounds. Forward Deonte Burton earned 13 points and center two-way Neemias Queta recorded 16 points and eight rebounds.

Mexico City’s Jones recorded 29 points (7-9 3PT) and 10 assists in 36 minutes. Mexico City saw two other players post 20-point performances, forward Gary Clark (25 points) and guard Skylar Mays (21 points). 

The Kings face Mexico City again on Friday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. in a special game at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento to conclude the two-game series.
